Is the left stamp an a? I ask because I bought it from a seller in Texas who listed it, and priced it, as R66c. It does have margins. Thin, yes, but the stamp on the right, clearly a c, doesn't have margins any bigger. Also, the cut on the left side is not quite vertical. That seems more likely the work of a busy clerk in 1863 than of a more recent swindler trying to carefully cut the perfs off.

Thanks for your help.

Don

Someone congratulate me! The above is my first posted scan! It only took me four days of frustration, and some hints from my son, to get it done. Something to be thankful about today.

Yes, the left stamp is an a. Correct dull red shade, impression, and date.

Don, congratulations on getting the scan done. Condolences on being sold an 'a.'

Congrats on the scan, Don, and on a nice R66a. I've learned, as revcollector implies, that there's a lot more to identifying a genuine imperf than margin size.

Yes, it is a good imperf variety. But both stamps catalogue the same amount. Just watch anyone tryiny to sell a R66b don't think I have seen a good one very often - very scarce if its genuine. Vertical pairs imperf between do exist, but have yet to be listed in the catalogue.

I have never seen a $1 or $2 value part perf that I thought was genuine. Including some pairs.
