Are you getting any stamps for Christmas as a gift from someone, or are you giving stamps as a gift to someone, or are you getting stamps as a gift for yourself? Do you have anything on your wantlist wishlist that you would like to have?

I doubt I'm getting any stamps, though there is an item on ebay I've been eyeballing. It's a cover from the USS Nashville to the USS Tennessee, and went through Cap Haitian, Haiti. Very cool piece of US Occupation of Haiti postal history, but I don't think it is worth the asking price.

If I get any stamps for Christmas, it will be because I bought them for myself or tore them off a Christmas card received from a friend or relative.

Rather than accumulate more, I am (a) giving myself the gift of time by taking fully all of the 24th to 27th off from work and using at least 4 hours of that span to work on my collections, and (b) going "shopping in my closet" by taking time to organize, mount and improve material that I already have.

My New Year's resolution is not to buy a single additional stamp until all the existing material is organized and mounted, or organized and offered at my club's silent auction.

I should last through January 7. (That's the day after the next club meeting)

Not getting stamps, but the fact I get a day off from work and will be able to work on my stamps for a few hours is as good a gift as anything, after working 6-day shifts the last several weeks as manager of the Seafood Dept at a major US supermarket here in Columbus.

If the Canada Post works as it should, I will get several used souvenir sheets. I just "learned" how to tell Santa what I want while using stamps2go.

No stamps for me but that doesn't mean that this is a great Christmas. I am immensely graceful just to be alive and be vertical! At this time last year there was a real question if this would be the case. The best Christmas gift I am getting is the ability to step onto the back porch and suck in a lung full of fresh air!

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Please live each day to its fullest and tell the people who you love how much they mean to you.
Don

PS - I always found stamps a hard thing to gift. Do you guys gift yourselves, arrange for the things you want, or just let others buy what they think you want?

I received a few of the APS circuits for the US and Canada recently so I made some Xmas purchases for myself out of those.

I will be using a portion of my Christmas bonus to purchase some much needed album supplements and mounts.

As for stamps, because no one in my family knows anything about stamps they won't buy them for me. So, I think I finally figured out a way for my family to give the gift of stamps. Too late for this year - but I'll use it next year.

Provide them with my want list and how much each stamp should reasonably cost - they pick the stamp or stamps - print out images and give me the image and the funds with the understanding that I will buy that stamp.

Is it too soon to start my list?

Bob....it might be more prudent to have your family just give you a Visa/Mastercard Gift Card or something similarly universal next year rather than purchases from a list of stamps about which they have little understanding in regards to questions of price and condition. Removes the risk that someone either picks items that are not to your standards for collecting, or worse get the short end of a deal paying too much or buying the wrong material completely.

I was planning a self-gift but "fell asleep at the snipe".

I am, like, so kicking myself.

Gonna sort some of those piles, instead, which will be a pretty good time.

You are right about not having them buy me stamps from a list. Maybe I didn't explain properly.

I don't want them buying me the stamp - but I don't like giving or getting general gift cards either - its too impersonal. This way they can decide -oh I'll get him that 5.00 columbian he wants (in my dreams) they can print the image and give me the gift card in the amount I said I would be willing to pay for it. That way I choose the condition that I am looking for but they took some personal involvement in choosing the gift.

I will make at least one stamp purchase for myself for Christmas. That is, if I can manage a winning bid. Seems like some have plenty of extra money at this time of year, lol.
