The best advice I have gotten from the Forum by far. Use a glue stick to adhere the stamp mount to the album page. Works great. Thanks Guys.

What's the particular advantage over the traditional way?

I think it's the absence of dampness in the album. And your tongue doesn't get furry.

I am using Elmer's craft bond. Goes on evenly and there is no moisture to cause the album page to wrinkle. The glue also gives you the ability to reposition the mount if necessary. I am currently using Prinz mounts and have been happy with them.

I use an Elmer brand glue stick. I figure if there is a problem I've done no damage to the stamp. I can replace the album and mount if necessary.

I use Scotch acid-free double-sided scrapbooking tape. It allows me to move mounts around without needing to reprint my pages.

The big advantage for me is the mount can be moved around. For example, I've used glue sticks to mount varieties in a standard Davo album. Then I get a couple more varieties and need to reorganized the mounts. Its a snap using the glue stick.

The unasked question here is what happens with the passage of time when one is using glue and tape. Does the adhesive used; whether tape or glue; eventually soak through to the back of the page or worse, through more than one page? My experience; with purchase of collections; has been that adhesives eventually migrate away from the place of original use and can create a big mess and damage.

GeoffHa hints that use of too much moisture in mounting stamps the "traditional" way can also create problems, whether using hinges or mounts. Solution to that is to not slobber all over everything; just use enough moisture to attach the item. And one doesn't get "furry mouth" very quickly either. Myself, I use tape very, very sparingly, in real small pieces, and don't use glue at all.

I haven't had any problems with the scrapbooking tape. I've been able to remove and replace mounts that were stuck for 20 years, and there's no sign of compromise. It helps that the adhesive is very light and acid free.

I have always used mounts and hinges the "traditional" way. For mounts, I don't lick them per se, but just touch the bottom of the mount to my tongue. This puts just a very small amount of moisture on the mount. Of course, then it is stuck to the page and can't easily be moved.

I tried glue stick once and the corners were not stuck down on the paper, so I didn't care for it.

I started using the glue Elmer's glue stick and found that I have to be a little careful because if I use too much it will wrinkle the back of the page.

I am using showgard hinges right now (I might switch later) and I noticed if I hold the hinge down at the bottom right of the top flap and wipe from my finger to the opposite top corner and then straight up it will work and not pucker the back of the page.

hope this helps

wp62: Do I understand that you are applying the glue stick to only the top flap of the mount?
