I've purchased my share of vintage dealers bundled stamps, to search for varieties etc.. But, I am usually left with large quantities of common stamps, after I pick out what I want. I was just curious if others have this issue, and what do you do with the unwanted quantities. Do you re-bundle them, pack them away in envelopes or glassines, or ? What is your preferred method with dealing with large quantities of common stamps?

I just can't bring myself to discard them. One day I will mail them to unsuspecting people listed in the phone book who will undoubtedly end up on our forum asking if these stamps are of any value.

I prefer to throw them in the recycle. But I never do. Sigh.

If they are from certain countries [good=Germany, Belgium, Swiss, bad=USA, Spain, Russia] you can start a date calendar collection. I have used bundles to almost complete the 1920's. A friend of mine is attempting a collection of a cancel from every town on the globe. The last refuge of old stamps is cutting them up for art projects.

I have consolidated various proposals for donations that have appeared here in the past few years.

Anyone who sends an eMail can have the current version of the PDF.

Maybe I mis-worded my question. My unwanted stamps are only "unwanted" right now. In other words, I may revisit them at some point in time when my knowledge has grown. I was wondering what's a good way to store them for now? Bundling them would sure save space, but are not as handy if you want to look through them again. I thought about stock pages, but I don't have that many at the moment. Right now, they are just shoved into glassines, but it's kind of messy. How do you all store large quantities of common stamps, for possible future study?

I appreciate the answers so far though.

I place mine on stock pages which can then be moved from one binder to another while I sort them more specifically for later projects. For me, unless damaged, there are no dead stamps! Someday, I will likely donate them to youth stamp clubs etc as there I'm sure they will find new homes and be appreciated once again. Promoting this hobby is important to me.

spain_1850 wrote: "how do you all store large quantities of common stamps, for possible future study?" I rarely buy bundled stamps. My "group" purchases are in the form of collections bought at auction; plus one inherited collection. I leave them on the album pages until I can get to them. I do try to work on these acquired collections within a year or two of purchase, but sometimes that is difficult. My worst case was in 2013, when I finally added a small collection of classic Montenegro to my Big Blue International pages, that I had purchased in 1975.
