Does "unchecked" mean it was "checked" in ebay auction parlance/terminology or is "unchecked" a valid statement. I find it hard to believe that an seller would just grab a lot or collection and put it up for auction "as is" without any curiosity as to what might be in the offering.

When I see "unchecked" it signals to me that the seller did go through the offering or the seller would not find it necessary to issue the denial.

I think it's often a caveat by which the seller tries to protect him/herself from possible complaints about condition, fakes etc. But it could be a heap of stuff that the seller simply couldn't be bothered to go through, in the case of kiloware. I don't think someone who found an old album in the attic would use the term.

I know if I sell a lot and describe it as unchecked, it means I have not gone through the stamps and checked them for perforation sizing or watermarks. Too time consuming for me.

They are usually stamps that came along with larger groups purchased by me for 1 or 2 specific stamps.

I sold over 2,000 boxes and mixtures of stamps in my life time ,absolutely none have been checked according to the discussion above .
Nobody ---yes ----nobody in the stamp trade checks their stamps for perforations and watermarks who deal in worldwide stamps . First, time doesn't allow it and second 99% of material coming across their desk isn't worth checking . Most dealers and I can view a glassine full of stamps or a huge ten box lot and pick out the better stamps on a quick one time view . Nobody is a expert on everything and we don't have to be ,we just know what is priemum and what is not, 98% of the time.
To say it is a uncheck lot --really ---you really think there is that many lots being sold today that hasn't gone thru 2 or 3 dealers hands in the past 20 years first . Most lots being sold today especially on ebay have been purchased at one time thru major stamp auction firms and each lot has been reviewed by the firm and maybe by 6 or more bidders before it was sold to the happy ebay seller .Who turns around and tells you it is unchecked ,yes it is unchecked by him ,but the experts and by that means 5 or 6 of them who are more experienced than your typical ebay seller has already viewed the material.

Floortrader does a nice job of illustrating why I do not buy on ebay, especially with his last sentence. If I want to shop at a flea market, I can go to the Mile High Flea Market, outside of Denver, where I can at least examine the material. Or I can buy at auction, or in person from reputable dealers.

Collectors do it for enjoyment, dealers do it for a living. Time is money and there is no money in searching through 2000 stamps with a perf gauge and watermark fluid. If the lot is coming from a busy dealer than you can almost guarantee that it is unchecked.
