Admiral Imperforate Issue

This has puzzled me for a long time.

Did the PO issue the small number of Admiral Imperforates (Scott 136 to 138) for general public use?

If so, why after so many years of issuing perforate stamps, did the PO revert to imperforate varieties?

Boggs states that the 1c yellow, 2c green and 3c carmine Admiral imperforates were placed on sale at the Philatelic Section of the Financial Section in 1924. He doesn't give any reason for their sale, but the implication is that it was done to meet some philatelic demand.

According to Marler, (the admiral issue of Canada - 1982) these were issued in 1924 (Jan 24th). see pp 205, 523-524 for a complete write-up. These were in response to customers demand as it was believed that a few sheets had been issued as a favour in late dec 1923 or early Jan 24.(see also pp 332 and 333 of the same reference.

It's my understanding that the printers would provide the PO with a number of imperforate sheets for the archives and/or for His/Her Majesty's collection. Some would also be used at the Postmaster General's discretion. I was just wondering if there was a real postal need to be met by their release or if there was some intrigue involved as surfaced during the late 1930s and early 1940s with later issues. There seems to be little written about this era when one regards the volumes that have been produced on the Admirals.

Thanks AQ. I've searched the BNAPS library, and while a myriad of articles covered the Admirals, little covered this particular aspect.

Are some of these plate proofs (ungummed?) while others are from imperforate (gummed?) panes?

Here is another types of admirals imperforate. The block of nine was recently sold from Bringham Auction, and the 3c single was obtained from the Jan 16 Sandafayre auction

these are actual scans of the Variety. They are called the 1930 ADMIRAL REVERSED ESSAY.3c Admiral enlarged reversed essay printed in GREEN on ungummed thick paper, unhinged, also called trials of a Victory Kidden machine. These were prepared by a German printer as demonstrations in an effort to secure a printing contract for Canadian stamps, ex ABNCo archives.

They Are just essay not variety and should not be call variety they never intended to be use Actually It's probably not an official essay as it was for push a sale not to fill an order from Canada Post


It's a printer experiment not a Canadian stamp we have to leave it like this to many people's find the way to make Scott publish variety # for nothing
