And couldn't believe the "Stamp Collection" they advertised actually had some worthwhile material. Pictured are some of the items in a small stockbook I purchased that had a few pages of U.S. Revenues and Canadian stamps. No doubt I will be keeping a closer eye on the auction houses in my area!

I was the only bidder on the floor - But this auction was listed on the internet and I was bidding against the net. I did have the advantage to view the lot in person to realize the true value of what was in the book. The internet bidders only had grainy photos to look at. The lot sold for well over the estimate which I am sure the auction house was happy about. And I think I got it for a great deal - So win/win for all parties involved I would say. |

The R115b is nice. I don't see traces of a punch cancel (which these frequently have), but can't tell for certin given the size of the image. |

No cut cancel on the R115b - Just the stain at the bottom and a light horizontal crease, which I don't mind one bit. Excited to have it in my collection! |

Yes, the R115b is a great item to have, especially if you're pleased with the price of the lot. |

HarryG, I'm positive that you didn't want that 50 cent Revenue since it has an upside down Washington -- probably ruins an otherwise nice stamp, right?
My guess is that you did great!

Thanks everyone for the kind words - I am ecstatic to have an invert in my collection! For many years I have scoured the local ads for estate auctions and sales that had stamp collections. And till now have never found anything worth while. I guess the moral of the story for me is to stay vigilant & keep up the search!

Nice win! I often go to estate auctions in my area, and have occasionally got some deals. But they are getting fewer and far between. Either all the stamps collectors on a one hour radius of my home have already died, or the word is out. |

So the lesson to the living is to have your best items well identified AND to make sure someone in the immediate family knows what you have. Or perhaps better, to have a philatelic executor named in your will to handle your collection. |
