Folks,
I have been communicating with Michael Bloom and APS about the possibility of having some interactive games available for kids to play at the World Stamp Show 2016 in NY. Although I would like to provide super slick educational games, there is very limited amount of time for me to pull off a large project(s). Their specs include; "There needs to be a mix of some for younger kids and some older. Probably about 4 for each age. There should be some kind of time limit build in so games could be freed up for kids in a group."

I have developed a few games and puzzles for their consideration, I can host them or I will donate the source code to APS and they can host these on the APS web site. I am still working on some more but am currently seeking some testers and/or any feedback that SCF family members might be able to provide. (This is exclusively for SCF folks.)

Note; all files, graphics, and sounds are either done be me or are in the public domain, it is important to have no copyright issues come up. I mocked up a dummy APS web page to illustrate how they might be presented. I am recommending that APS have available some topical stamp packets as prizes for kids who get high scores/best times. (i.e dinosaur stamp packet for dinosaur game, Star Wars stamp packets for Star Wars game, etc.)

I am still working on additional crossword puzzles but would like some feedback on their possible philatelic related content. (I have one for general stamp collecting terms and one for US Presidents.) Perhaps denominations of various countries shown on stamps? Or?

If you have the time and can provide feedback, please respond in this thread with your comments. Please include the following info (especially if you run into issues)

1. Browser type and version
2. Operating system and version
3. Any error messages
4. Name of game

Thank you very much in advance for any time and effort anyone might contribute to this project. I am hoping that APS might consider these long term for their site as a step towards capturing some new, younger hobbyists.
Don

Don,

I think these are great. My sons enjoyed the matching games, especially the Star Wars one- very timely! My only suggestion would be to have a word bank for the crossword puzzles. It would help with spelling the words. It could have a few more words than necessary to keep it challenging, although that space one was HARD!

Don, I have tried some of the games.

The Presidential crossword puzzle and the Space crossword puzzle both worked fine. The Chinese Zodiac Stamps Memory Game also worked fine.

When I tried the Stamp Tetris, my arrow keys had no effect on the falling blocks. The first time I tried it was on a Mac Mini with OS X version 10.9.5 using Safari version 9.1. Then I tried it on my Windows 7 laptop using Google Chrome, and still the arrow keys had no effect.

gabriella,
Thank you for taking some time to help. Yes, the Stamp Tetris game arrow keys are not supported in a few browsers. There is a known issue for arrow key support (Google this issue to see many, many complaints). Unfortunately I know of no work-arounds. I do not think this will be an issue for the computers at the NY Show but I will add a notice so users will better understand.
