In 1942, most car manufacturers has halted automobile assembly and had shifted to supporting the war effort. Studebaker's factories were assigned to produce three primary items; trucks, aircraft engines and a cool little tracked vehicle called the Weasel. Studebaker made the US6 truck; a 6X6 powered by Hercules engine. They were turning out 4,000 per month early in 1942 and continued to produce them until the end of 1945; a total of 200,000 US6 were built. Half of these were actually shipped to Russia as part of the 'Lend/Lease Program". They were used so heavily by the Russians that the name 'Studebaker' became slang for the word truck.
