Does anyone have a Scott # or info on this Greek stamp? I've spent a majority of my night nose deep in Scott and using my character map on the CPU to no avail. I know it is 5 drachma and is some sort of financing treasury and judicial buildings stamp. Possibly semi-postal? I cry uncle. Any help is appreciated.

Tax stamp?

Start at http://www.stampworld.com/en/stamps/Greece/ ...

On the right side, see the drop-down-box labeled "Cat." (category).

Select [ Postal Tax Stamp ]

Then, find the drop-down-box labeled "Denom." (denomination)

Select [ 5 ]

Select [ Search ]

Then, wait patiently for someone who knows, because that did not work

Cheers,

It's not a postage stamp. It's a label or a tax stamp. The text running around the stamp means 'Fund for financing judicial buildings'. The text above the denomination is the abbreviation.

OK...so I guess the good thing here is that I wasn't loosing my mind last night with not being able to ID it. Ikey I tried stampworld as well last night and couldn't come up with anything either.

StampWorld's "Postal Tax Stamps" database stops at 1956.

I'm thinking that Greek taxes did not stop in 1956 :)

Your design looks kinda 70ish to me, but these trends move at different paces in different countries.

You could look at the Greek postage stamp designs, and estimate a date from that.
