I collect us MNH stamps and last weekend a Canadian dealer who I've dealt with in the past, offered me a nice set with left selevedge attached with plate number. He does not deal in US stamps, he is Canada only. He's told me give him an offer, problem is I don't know what I should pay. I'm thinking $900.00 cash. Suggestions?

Well, it is hard to tell from what you are saying. Can you give us a better idea of what all this offer entails?
Also, if you can find any of this stuff on E-bay or other auctions, you might be able to get a better idea!

Sorry, I should of described it better. These three stamps would complete my Airmail collection. I want them. All 3 are fine to very fine and NH. Nice bright color. With the selevedge attached with plate # I can't seem to value. My New's Year's resolution was to get these stamps and complete that Lindner album of mine! The set IS expensive and I know I can get these at a great price but what price? The dealer does not deal in US stamps and is going on Scott's alone. I don't think he knows what he has and I hope he doesn't read this forum!

Well, without seeing scans, we have to take your word about condition. Given that, $900 for the set with selvage and plate #'s would be a steal, I think. I probably spent closer to $1200 for the three a couple of years ago when I completed my US airmail collection. One had selvage, but none had plate numbers.

$900.00 would be a great deal for decent Plate# singles! Good luck!

Without seeing them it's hard to say what would be a fair or good price. Since you stated that you collect stamps that have never been hinged I'm assuming the set is MNH ? I've been trying to find a C15 lightly hinged with excellent centering for $400 or less, I still have a blank spot in that space in the album........

If the centering is decent it's a good price regardless of which country's currency you are using.

The centering is very good, these would be in the top ten of all the 2000 stamps that I own. 90% of my collection is MNH VF. The rest are lightly hinged (mostly the low numbers)I will try to get a scan to share with the forum. I am going to low ball him and see what happens. I will keep you posted.

IMLTHO... No dealer is going to sell a sound set of mint US Zeppelins for C$900. Period. End of statement. This is a well known and sought after set worldwide. My US$.02 worth is to be very cautious about them having been regummed.

Never have words been a bigger bane to collectors. I added a set of VF-XF zepps, along with two of the three on cover during 2015, so I know exactly where you are at. If you have a long-standing relationship with the dealer involved, and trust them, it is a "steal" price. BUT...

Stuart MacNeil, ask him about his extension terms when you make your offer and watch how quickly he runs away from the deal... (just my intuition - agree 100% w/ kevin504 that he knows exactly what he has).

NH Zepp sets are about as close to "commodity" as it gets for pre-1940 US classics...so he probably knows EXACTLY how to price them too. The "I don't know, make me an offer" stance raises all sorts of red flags for me.

Use common since, don't worry about those three holes. Look at how many they issued of these stamps, every dealer has them for sale-every auction has them. Why don't you find stamps worth investing in such as M&M stamps in good condition or try to get a choice revenue that Michael Aldrich has in his March 2 auction-many nice scarce stamps for sale here. The only way I would consider doing what you want to do is if I can sell them and make a decent fast profit -they are never going to be scarce.
