A Sydney dealer .................. 've heard about the odd stray mint singles, but not full sets from ANY other dealer source in this ENTIRE country - phone about by all means! I have just a few complete sets of 6 MUH left for sale - just $A265 a stamp, for something that maybe 100 or so full mint sets exist of globally, as I type. I mailed a set to the Commander of the orbiting "ISS" MIR Space Station, who is a keen collector and ordered one! Price subject to change without notice on these. Until I email you "order confirmed" it is NOT. A Red Hot, very fluid market. Only about $US1,100 as I type this (I accept paypal in USD), and at $100s LESS than the most recent ebay prices, but only for those who act FAST: $A1,600 (Stock 572GY) |

What is so wrong with a dealer promoting a very hot new item, especially one that was produced under the circumstances that this provisional issue from Adelaide resulted. Stamp dealers have to make a living too, and under the circumstances it makes sense for a dealer who does have some of these to promote them while the market is being formed. I know I do NOT regret purchasing two sets from this same Sydney dealer back on the 19th of January, and the price he charged me was no where even 1/10th the current market price sets are getting on ebay now. The market is still in formation for this issue, and at some point there will be a price ceiling reached, but until dealers and collectors determine that value in the marketplace, the question of valuation will remain open. Personally I feel pretty confident that the fair market value for the mint set of six will be above (and likely WELL above) what I paid for the set. I took a risk and bought the sets when the news first broke, and now I believe I will reap a nice financial reward for that risk down the road once the market stabilizes. And thanks to the wonders of modern internet technology, I in the USA was able to get the information on this release in a timely manner, whereas say 20 years ago it might have taken months for collectors of Australia here in the USA to hear about this issue. |

At the end of the day most people are buying with the view of reselling & I have no problem with that .Everyone that buys multiple sets will expect a big windfall but sooner or later someone will get their fingers burnt. |

I don't think that there is any question that these are legitimate postal issues.
That there may/not be a frenzied asset bubble does not speak to whether/not they are legitimate postal issues.
Hopefully, the album publishers will create a separate page for this stamp - rather like they do for other special purpose stamps - making it that much easier for collectors to ignore them without compromising the completeness of their AU definitives series.
Scott et al should not give them an in-series catalog number, so as to not force the issue. To coin a phrase.
Cheers,

Al, he didn't pay 30c. for them, he bought them after the price had already skyrocketed and added a margin. His price is most probably about the same as current realisations on ebay less ebay & Paypal charges although presumably most Australian purchases would be by bank transfer without any Paypal charges. Al,
All of his at $ 1600 have been sold,
from Stampboards,
Seems like the savvy buyers have concurred with me the strips of 6 are where the smaller printing lies. Shame all my strips are now sold, before this was discovered!
This strips is suddenly up to $1,825 with some time to go, meaning it will likely set a new record for a strip,
It appears that it has been discovered that there are two types which means that specialists will now want both types and there could be competition for the type they are missing.
The story isn't over, maybe just beginning.

I think the stamps are legitimate. But I also think that they have been associated with a dealer who is influencing their value by using his forum and web site for heavy marketing. And as for puffery? Folks can read for themselves and make their own decisions. He certainly has a right to market things the ways he sees fit, I am just a bit surprised that anyone would deny it is having marketplace influence.
I feel the title of this thread is 100% correct. And the feeding frenzy is being enhanced by the marketing chum. Speculating on these stamps would be difficult enough without the extra influence coming from the Australian version of Donald Trump. He is a very polarizing personality and that adds a new consideration to the buying decision for many people.
The marketplace and time will be the final judge of their value. One of two things will happen here. Either the current value is a bottom and they will only go up, indicating true value and legitimate interest. Or this bubble will burst when the marketing influence wanes away after the money has been made. I imagine that it will take a year or so before we know the answer to this question. Don |
