These two early Irish stampa are overprinted in Irish , one in red and one in carmine . Going blind trying to tell the difference . I had what I thought was 11 and just bought 11A on ebay . Unfortunately I have no luck trying to upload the pictures . Thanks

I don`t know if Scott identifies an 11a as my MacDonnell Whyte catalog has a Scott number missing for what it calls T11A. Regardless, it is a nine pence with a carmine 5-line overprint. (The 11 is in red.) Carmine is described as being darker than red and with apparent traces of blue in the ink.

Your three pence is Scott nr. 28. in blue-black. Be sure to check this one for an inverted and reversed watermark as it is more valuable.

Your 9d stamp has a red overprint. Red appears more orange, and carmine is darker and more blue. Dealers and sellers, especially on ebay, often mis identify or misrepresent red as carmine, or say that the stamp has a carmine overprint and accompany it with a scan with ambiguous color registration. Buyer beware.

I believe the true carmine color is duller. Red is a bright flame red.

However, the right image here is ambiguous. The stamps are keystoned, the lighting is uneven, the focus is soft and there's a shadow on the left. It looks like a quick smartphone image and unfortunately that's not enough to declare "carmine". A scan of both, on a black background, side by side (not two single-stamp scans) is needed.

On the current evidence, the right stamp has a red overprint.
