The previous owner labeled this cover as Palestine fieldpost. How would he know this?

The FPO number would identify the location. Much like the American APOs.

If it is British Army FPO 109 - it is listed as Ramstein, Germany.

Peter is likely correct. BFBO 109 was located in the Middle East during World War I and that may explain the confusion.

FPO 109 was in Gambia during the Second World War.

I believe Fakunle is a Nigerian surname and this may fit well with a West African location.

Nigelc: Do you know of a website that lists the FPOs for the UK during WWII?

I know of a book - "A Priced Checklist of British Army and Field Post Offices", but it's not that easy to find. I believe Ramstein, Germany is the modern location for BFPO109.

Hi Battlestamps,

There's a basic list in Collect British Postmarks.

nigelc: Thanks! I should have guessed. I have that book, but not in the same room as me at the moment and probably under a mountain of mess.
