Hello fellows, what is the difference between these 2 stamps, other than the color? Both have the inverted frame and identified in the Scott catalog as J18. But Scott only lists one color for the inverted frame variety that being the blue-green. These stamps are definitely different colors. The one on the left is the b-g color the one the right being olive-green or yellow-green I know that Scott isn't the definitive answer for varieties, but my 1969 Zumstein catalog doesn't give much help. Is Scott remiss in the listing or am I missing something here? I have another with the inverted frame (not blue-green) that shows a break in the bottom of the zeros of the 100 (pictured). Is this variety listed in a specialized Swiss catalog? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Wolf-==-

Wolf, my 2000 Zumstein does not help me much either because I do not really make much out of the different colors. Since they are in German I can not tell much. The variety in the numbers seems to be typical of the printing technique; I have several similar ones. And I can not find any listed in Zumstein either!
Going back to the colors, these stamps have been printed and reprinted some 35 times! No wonder there are so many different colors!

Peter

After some consideration and a close review of my Zumstein (with my limited working knowledge of German) I have determined, as Peter says, that with the Scott numbers J15-J20 there is no definition or premium placed on the blue-green color. Zumstein mentions the inverted frame variety but does not, as far as I can tell, list a separate price for them. They do go into some detail and pricing of the different colors of the issue. Zumstein also talks about fine impressions and later less clear ones as well (which is not mentioned in Scott). In my estimation, if you have a true blue-green color set of the type II inverted frames, then you have something. Check the listing below. I believe it is the b-g color and is getting some fair money.
Cheers! Wolf-==-
