I am selling a large collection of pre-1940 stamps from around the world. Is there a particular country whose stamps are especially sought after currently or always in demand?
Thanks!

There are countries that have time frames that will almost always be sought after but always is a tough one. Early Australian Kangaroos do well, Early China and many periods of China have been the hottest over the last 10 years. When you say pre-1940 is that 1935-1938 or is there a lot of turn of the century 1900's. There are also countries that you can't give away. |

Mostly 1800s and early 1900s. What are the countries you can't give away? (Just to save me from wasting time)
Thanks for the reply. |

Not that they are particularly "hot" at the moment, but better stamps of the major countries in Europe their colonies will generally sell if priced right. There are a lot of collectors out there collecting Great Britain, France, Germany, et. al. and their colonies. No, you won't get full catalog for them, but they probably won't languish unsold forever, either, if priced right. |

Reading the APS monthly magazine's Sales Talk articles, suggest that central and south American countries may be "hot" ... the APS Sales division is always looking for these areas. |

What are you selling? If it's low value incomplete set, it don't sell well |

I found that Revolution Russia (1920's-1940's) is difficult especially unused. Most of the early Asian countries, Japan, China etc especially HI CV sell for better. Newfoundland generally gets 40-60 CV. My experience is limited to e-Bay sales. HTH Wolf-==- |

I sell collections all the time, and I start with "A" and sell until "Z", but it all depends on having enough stamps in a country to make it interesting. I find the Latin American countries sell for low prices, most of the colonies are strong especially Italian colonies. Great Britain, Canada, China, Japan, Siam and Persia usually sell well but it all depends on the stamps.
For example I had a Scott Album 1840-1933 that had about 22,000 stamps. I broke it up into 225 lots and sold it for a total of $14,000. Good luck!

Besides what's already mentioned, for the 19th century, stamps from Australian, Canadian, South African, Indian, German and Italian states/provinces tend to do well. And British Commonwealth in general. Best of luck |

Thanks for all the information, guys. I have some from all of the countries mentioned. I started by putting one page of an album, both sides – but not complete – of stamps from Hungary on ebay. I have some Roos from Australia. And lots of old overprints. All from before 1945. Would be happy to get half of face value. |

Here are some Italian overprints. Is this what you mean by "Italian colonies"? |

No, those are stamps issued for use in post offices operated by Italy in areas outside Italy itself. Italian colonies of the early 20th century included Libya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Italian Somalialand, etc. |
