In thought I would show some pictures of Fort Leavensworth cancellations that might benefit collectors. The second and third pages are a study directed toward the honeycomb cancellations. There are several theories how this cancel came about, mine is a gouge used in leather work was heated and the design burnt into a piece of cork possibly to resemble a seed pod. The size of the design was made smaller in each state. There are lines drawn to extend beyond the stamp and mount corresponding to constant cracks in the cork. The top four stamps, even being of different values, still had the lines in the same directions- the same for the stamps in the second state. Also, the top four stamps are on thin white Continental paper and the third and fourth states on American papers.
