Hi once again!
As a follow up to my previous "follow up"................
The 1985 editions of Parts 3 and 4 arrived yesterday, and looking thru the packages, they appear to meet my expectations.
Obviously the paper is of a high quality, thicker, and with the holes a bit further from the edges - as compared to my earlier versions. And, from what I can tell, all countries and types (i.e. regular, semi postal, airmail, etc.) end on their own page.

I did note some BOB listings (included in earlier versions) were missing, which means I'll have to post them on blank pages.

Anyway, the new pages will complete the upgrade of the collection, and all I have to do is transfer about 16,000 stamps......... transferred I can

One of the biggest concern of any collector who buys a set of albums ,is the ability to keep them looking good over time . The big BLUES are not a well thought out and design that is made for years of handleing and moveing around . If you go to any large stamp auction and look at the International albums that other collectors have owned and handle you will start to see the "duct tape" the faded centers of the back spine were collectors grabbed the binders with oily hands . You will also notice the dirty pages ends as the former owner flipped the pages .
To keep a set of International in top shape ,you need to handle it LESS. You can't take the binder off the selves and open it on the desk 10,000 times to check or wash your hands 20,000 times to work on your stamps . As in my case a few 100,000 times . I never seen this subject discussed by stamp collectors .

floortrader,
Clearly you are not a serious collector, a serious collector would never allow for a shelf or two of knick-knacks. (Just kidding of course!) What in the world would you do, God forbid, if a fire breaks out? It would take a pickup truck to move all of those albums.

But seriously, my BigBlues are 'working' albums that I have had since the 1970s. They show serious wear and tear from decades of use. I don't mind, it is not like I whip 20 fat albums out to show friends, family, or guests. I have other specialty albums and collections that I do consider worthy of showing off. I do the BigBlues for fun and my own intrinsic collecting pleasure.

Points all well taken!
When I was young (1950s-60s), the epitome of stamp albums was the Scott's Internationals. I certainly didn't have the means to get them, and in my eyes they were far beyond reach. I vividly recall being in Marshall Fields (Chicago)watching the "rich" businessmen studying all those expensive albums, stamps and coins. I was certainly not jealous, but I sure was envious.

So today I find myself with 11 Scotts binders (3 USA, 8 WW), all sitting nicely in their individual slipcases on two bookshelves. As Floortrader indicated, I also handle them with care, with clean hands, and as little as possible. These are all pretty special to me - something I just never thought I would have.

Here is my collection back in 1981 ,it was my idea on how to babysit and work on my stamps at the same time . Don't worry about the little girl in the picture ,she enjoyed sitting with her dad talking for hours . She later will turn out OK and lead U.S.Marines in combat in Iraq .

floortrader,

Hard for me to tell, are most of your binders Regular or Jumbo? In your experience, do the Jumbo binders really hold up less well compared to the Regular binders?

Chris
