Rating 1-10 with 10 being the best possible rating 1) http://www.linns.com/insights/stamp...e-world.html This site is basically and extension of the Linn's World Stamp Almanac and not for the better. At least in the Almanac there were maps to help the reader in location at various countries. However, it does have a strong base of information for the collector. Web Site rating 6 Almanac rating 7Since Linn's & Scott are both under Amos they should consider using the Scott's Stamp Atlas filled with maps, charts as well as entities information on the site instead. Scott Stamp Atlas rating 8[Link edited by KirkS: HINT: a space inside the {URL} tag breaks the link]

3) http://mujweb.cz/geophila/menu2_e.htmThis is the GEOPHILA group site and actually has 3 lists. The 1st list is a water down version of The Philatelic Atlas by Hlinka & Mucha. There is a attempt here to create a Dewey like system to number the various issuing entities which is a good idea. The 2nd list is one compiled by the group itself world wide! The 3rd list is of Chinese issuing entities which I find as very good. Again these lists are not support by maps or charts Web Site Rating 6 The Philatelic Atlas Rating 8 |

4) http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~wyatt/stamp-list.htmlThis is a list created by Scott Wyatt and is the 1st serious attempt at utilizing references in a research manner which I find an important to an a solid list. Strengths here are the good stamp images, the references as I've noted. The list is in straight alphabetical order all 5653 and is not supported by maps or charts! Web Site rating 7.5 |

5) http://zenius.kalnieciai.lt/The Philatelic Geography site by Albinas Borisevicius is the most in-depth collection and stamp issued entities currently on the web. This site is well organized into World regions then the various within in so on and also includes many stamp images! I certainly recommend viewing this site. However, I do not agree with the over emphasis of United Nations membership as a political change that creates a new entity, and listing overprints and a change too, since an overprint does not mean there was a change power in a given entity. Also the listing of QSL stamps which are radio verification stamps not used for postage! Web Site Rating 7.5 |

Intesesting thread, warrehouse! I am curious about your website rating metrics for grading from 1-10. Do you use a list of rating metrics to check for absence/presence of features? Do you check certain features for depth/breadth/quality? Or, is is more of an opinion based on experience with other websites? If someone else is to add to your neat thread, how can the ratings be compared or calibrated? |

Thank You Orstampman! I will be commenting/rating additional sites & lists. Depth/Breath/Quality are all considerations on these sites and books. I have been stimulated but not satisfied with information presented. So I have collected a wide range of issuing entities myself and use that information in rating these books and sites. I will be happy to go over any lists someone brings forth. Enjoy! |

6) http://www.stampworldhistory.com This site by Gerben van Gelder currently under construction may be the best to date. Great maps, charts, information and explanations as it relates to each issuing identities including an ease of navigation of the site. I have contributed some information to this site. In theory this site is to be limited to issuing entities noted in the 4 largest international catalogues, Scott, Stanley Gibbons, Michel & Yvert & Tellier! This limit is a strong base but there is more and the site does explore some of them. Rating on website 7.5. Please note that this rating is this low due to the fact it's not complete. It will very likely be the best site available when completed. |

Excellent idea for a thread, Mike. Questions about stamp issuing entities lists keep coming up across forums. Thanks for the kudos! Any chance of future contributions from your part to SWH? The ones you made were much appreciated.
Just a quick question: is The Philatelic Atlas by Mucha & Hlinka essentially the same as The Scott Stamp Atlas by the same authors? Only published by different publishers under different names. Or are there significant differences? |

The Scott issue was in a pocket size which was more convenient to carry around to stamp shows etc. I see what I can do! |
