I haven't picked up a good specialized catalog for Russia and I am looking at the single volume "Catalogue of postage stamps. Russian Empire, RSFSR, USSR. 1857-1991" edited by V Zagorsky. Does anyone have this catalog and give an opinion.

Reference to catalog here : http://zagorsky-stamps.com/index.ph...!prettyPhoto

I know there are also more specialized period catalogs by Zagorskiy covering 1857-1917, 1917-1923, 1923-1960 and 1961-1991 (and a volume for post USSR issues). I am just wondering if the single volume covers a lot of the varieties (esp color, watermark & perforation) that the pictures I have seen of the more specialized catalogs seem to have (not worried so much about plate flaws).

The single volume edition is all in English, whereas the specialized are bilingual Russian/English. So language should not be too much of a problem.

Any advice welcome

I'm also interested in opinions of this - it looks like a great catalog. Also curious what currency the values are in. Euros? Rubles?

I have a copy of the specialized catalogs in one PDF 1857 to 1991 and a PDF for one 1992 to 2010. But they are both in Russian. I glanced briefly at them once.

So I emailed the editors to get more info on the one volume. The one thing that the single volume does not include are the Russian POs abroad in the Ottoman Empire and China, which is rather surprising to me. So I think I will need to get the more specialized Zagorskiy catalogs that split Russia into 5 parts (1857-1917, 1917-1922, 1923-1960, 1961-1991, and 1992-present).

I have the 1857 - 1917 specialized catalog. I use it as the basis of my collection. It is very easy to use.
