Recently, I pulled out a stamp collection I had not touched for nearly 30 years. I'm now in the process of moving some of the stamps from a Minkus three-post album to White Ace.

A question, though. During the 80s, I had found some plastic page covers that fit snugly around my Minkus three post 8.5 x 11 pages, and used them to cover some of the pages in my album, like this:

The holes in the cover match up nicely with the holes in the album pages.

Today, though, when I look around, I'm having trouble locating this type of page cover. All I see is this latter style, which would give my White Ace pages the appearance of six holes to every page:

I'd love to find the more snug variety. Any ideas on who sells them? I don't see them in my local chain office supply store.

Also, is there a consensus here on whether or not these page covers are a good idea? I liked them because they protect the pages from getting dogearred and the holes of the pages from getting torn. A downside, of course, is that the stamps in the collection aren't quite as easy to see, given glare on the plastic and other factors.

Sheet protectors as shown in your first illustration should be readily available at STAPLES either in person or online. I believe they are still available in either a shiny finish or a matte (non glare) finish.

I guess I should have gone there first. I'll check it out. Thank you.

I have several boxes of the old-style page covers that wrap around the page. Don't really need them and could send them to you for the cost of shipping. However note that they are not closed at the botton, unlike the newer ones, so if a stamp comes loose the protector will not keep it from falling out.

So, I checked with Staples, and they say they don't have them and they couldn't find the product in their catalog.

Thanks for the offer, ekbustad. I may be touch very soon. I'm also going to work a couple of other angles, too.

As far as stamps falling out: Despite having no bottoms, the old plastic page covers still helped keep stamps when I was using Crystal Mounts in my old Minkus album. As it stands, so far, the Showgard mounts in my new album seem to be working fabulously.

For the larger size ones in which the holes match, I can tell you that the older ones are likely not archival. So be careful. In the past 2 years, I've tossed several hundred, varying from thick hard clear plastic to thinner flexible ones. I've removed them from collections I've bought, and you can often see where the stamps, mounts, and what-not have left rectangular marks/smudges or turned slightly translucent. Our recycle center won't take them, either, so 95% of them (mostly older ones) end up in the trash can.

My guess is that some of those collections got stored flat, instead of standing up, for long periods of time.
