The Texas centennial was celebrated in 1936. The date on the stamp appears to be 1935, but I suppose it could be 1936. Am not sure of the significance of "DALLAS", but my guess is that this is a special cancel used to commemorate the 1936 Texas state centennial. It does not look to me like a precancel. If I'm correct, then there should be other examples of the cancellation in existence. But I must stress that this is just a guess.

The slogan cancel exists with dates 1935 (when the celebration began) and 1936. The 1936 slogan was used through at least 1938. I don't know when it was officially discontinued.

There were several Centennial Expositions as well as many local ones, but Dallas was the site of the Central Centennial Exposition.

Well it seem to me improbable ( english word?) That this is a hand stamped cancel. And I if its a cancel, I would have to be very lucky the strike was centered. I thoughtof it was a pre cancel since there is two parallel bars , the one at bottom is not really clear on pic... and thanks

It is a machine cancel, not a precancel. The slogan was used only in Dallas on 3 International machines. Here is a complete example from machine 2 used with the Texas stamp. The Machine Cancel Society lists uses 1935-36 only, not as late as 1938 for this slogan.

Very lucky to get the machine cancel so well struck. Good find, and welcome to SCF.

Yes, I probably was not sufficiently clear in my post. The dates in the slogan are only 1935 and 1936, but the slogan cancel itself was used after that. I've seen it with as late as a 1938 date in the circular date cancel. That's what I meant when I stated that it was used at least through 1938.

khj, Allow me also to clarify. The MCS data are clear and well-researched. The date in the slogan box is only 1936. It does not change. The date in the CDS in known only with 1935 and 1936. Use in to 1937 or 1938 makes no sense.

Please show us a 1938 use of what are referring to, if you have such.

I agree, it doesn't make sense. I'll see if I can find a pic online, as I don't collect covers. I've seen it more than once, and thought it was odd then.
