For you general used WW collectors out there. I am starting to mount my stamps in Vario pages but a question I have is - Do keep spaces open for missing stamps like the pre-printed sheets for hinging or put in as you come to them, trying to keep years and sets together? ArtfulHinger any change to get a picture of one of your albums with the Vario pages?

I actually use stockbooks rather than Vario pages. I don't have a picture handy but I kind of make a judgement call as to whether to leave open spaces or not, or how many open spaces to leave. If it's somewhat likely I'll obtain the missing stamps at some point, I'll leave space. If it's fairly unlikely that I'll ever own them, I probably won't leave space. Sometimes I figure I'll probably eventually have some of them, but not all, and will just leave space for a few, etc. The parts of my collection that I'm somewhat serious about (i.e. working toward completion) I just keep in a more traditional album (Steiner Pages). My attitude toward general worldwide is that I'm not trying to complete anything, so those are sometimes organized somewhat haphazardly on a temporary basis.

What I described above is more or less the drawback of using stockbooks - you either have to plot out every page ahead of time or resign yourself to moving stamps around from time to time. As of this moment, I'm in the "resigned to moving stamps" camp. You'll still deal with some of this using Vario pages, but the moving around should theoretically be less frequent, as it's easy to rearrange or add pages, etc. The pages in a stockbook are fixed, and the only thing that can be moved or added is the stamps themselves.

You can leave open spaces without leaving, well, spaces.

For example, you can mount only a few stamps together on a 'line', leaving wide margins.

You can also leave the top row or bottom row empty without having to explain yourself.

Cheers,

Even if you don't plan to print them I will order a Steiner's cdrom, it will make a nice reference for the layout your Vario pages.

Ikey is right on the spot, if a row is supposed to hold 5 stamps and you have only 2, center them and leave space on each side .
