Hi, this is my first post so any help is welcome. After 50 years I am back into stamps, I have bought a huge lot from auction, this is the first question of many I expect.
I have 2 stamps from Hungary that are overprinted as shown, they also have full gum to the back and have not been hinged. From internet searches I have done, there have been fakes made of these stamps, how do I tell if they are good or fake.
Thank you for any information.

Unfortunately, I know of no good way to determine if overprinted stamps like these are entirely genuine. Not many of them were issued, relatively speaking, so that points more towards the overprints being forged. However, the stamps are not that valuable, so the assumption might be made that they are not forged. However--so many howevers!--overprints can be forged for almost nothing in cost, so one could make a modest amount selling forged overprinted stamps like these as they are interesting to certain collectors.

For what it's worth, they look good to me. If I put them in my collection, I would be happy to have a good 'representation' of the stamps from this period and leave it at that.

There are so many forgeries of these stamps that they should be considered forged unless accompanied by a trustworthy certificate.

Christopher E. Brainard's "Catalog of Hungarian Occupation Issues 1918-1921" is a good resource if you want to dig more into these.

Thank you classical stamps, I think I will consider them forgeries just to be on the safe side.
