Could be money laundering.

Police: Where did you get that £5000 in your account?

Suspect: Sold a rare stamp - here's the proof.

Police try and locate the other guy - he's disappeared. (Of course it's the same guy/s really.)

Upshot - the money, which could have come from anywhere, is 'clean'.

There might be some good news on the horizon...over the last few weeks some of the accounts have been NARUed (stamp.shop, jagermeister391745, re-entry, collectstamps, and tenshillings).

Of course there are several possible reasons that an ebay account might be shown as NARU (Not A Registered User) but usually it is due to non-payment of fees, violations of ebay rules, or refusal to follow through on transactions.

Another thing that bothers me is that ebay shows no evidence of accounts being marked previously marked as NARU but then brought back to Active. Given that it typically takes incredibly bad service or other significant problems to even reach the point of NARU status; shouldn't other ebay members be alerted to the risks they are taking when doing business with an account which has previously removed from ebay due to problems?
