I don't have a specialized catalog for German stamps so not sure what I have here. They list a set of 5 stamps for $1800.00 and that's it. What I am wondering is it granite paper and what numbers and value do they have. The numbers I'm using are from Scott O18 MNH,O19 MH,O21 MH and O22 MNH.

O18,O19

O21,O22

It is very hard to tell, since the pictures are bad. But I think I see some threads in three of the stamps.

Northerner0, you need to check the watermarks on these. They are the granite paper (gafasertes Papier) stamps. If they have the wide DDR and posthorns watermark (the 1956 set), you could be "on to something". On the other hand, if they have the DDR and blossum watermark (1957 set), they are the cheapies.

I think I can see the blossum watermark on your stamps, but my tired, old eyes could be wrong.

Thanks again bookbndrbob I think I have to lay off stamps for a bit lol (I won't). Not use to seeing paper type in the German DDR book, but there it was when I just looked. Yes they are O37-O40 (swing and a miss again).
Another question I would like to ask is there any common to uncommon stamps from Germany and colonies to look out for. Need to find a specialized catalog in english for cheap.

bookbndrbob is spot on. All four stamps appear to be on granite paper. You need to check the watermarks. If the watermark is a Scott 313, (Michel Wz. 3) they are the more common type, MI34, 35, 36 and 37. If they are watermarked Scott 297 (Michel Wz 2) they are the scarcer variety you refer to, Mi29, 30, 31, and 32. If you really want to get into the weeds, the size and direction of the watermark matter as well.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.

LOL That's what I like about this forum. The problem gets figured out while I am thinking about a reply.
