well, I see it is selling for $3.37 - should be about the same in euros. Not too common but also not rare either.

As an aside, my Scott tells me that reprints of P2 are watermarked and are worth some 3 hundred dollars or so. |

Hi KGB. Yes, that was my question, I like the stamp very much and I'm not planning to sell... It just makes me feel good knowing I have 1 or 2 uncommon stamps in my collection :) , will check the wmk, what should I be looking for? (I hate looking for the watermarks) |

Robi13, I agree with you - watermarks are evil. But.....it is part of our hobby so you might as well get used to it. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Do you live in or close to a large town? Is there a stamp club in your country? If we know some of these things we might be able to help better. Also, you need to ask questions, not let us guess at what you want. Posting the stamp above with a yellow circle does not mean a thing if you do not explain why the circle is there!

The reprint was in 1896, using the same printing plates, and the watermark you are looking for is the first, i.e., "kr" in ellipse. The "kr" will appear reversed though you might only see a portion. This WM is not that hard to detect. The chance of this being a reprint is slim. There were very limited quantities printed (I want to say 1800?) and likely not to have been used I think. |

Thanks a lot but I don't expect it to be reprint since the date of the cancellation is on the stamp a looks to 1874. What difference does it make if it's or its not a reprint? |

Yes, issued in 1871 for use on printed matter, devalued at the end of 1876, so valid cancellations would be between 1871 and 1876. The next design was released in October of 1874, so usages after that would taper off. The 1896 reprint is not known used. Both the standard stamp and the reprint as shown in two shades in my Magyar Posta es Illetekbelyeg Katalogus. |
