World Stamp Show Ny2016 - At The Show

My first stamp show is now behind me. What a week!

Here are some quick, first impressions.

It never felt crowded. Speaking with venders and officials, plus SCF members on site, everyone seems pleased with attendance.
The USPS set up was excellent. I was able to buy stamps, get show postmarks and send out covers quickly and easily.
The show could not exist without volunteers.
The exhibition frames, the amount and the quality were beyond description. AMAZING! will have to do.
If I had to choose a favorite part of the show, it would be the meetings. Being able to interact with knowledgeable and passionate people was a blast.

This 10 min Youtube does give an idea of the NCY show but the camera work did get me dizzy after a few minutes.

The video is the most I have seen on the show and by the Georgian Post Office. Alas, the camera did not have image stabilization.

Image stabilization would not have helped this one very much. He moved the camera from one point to the other too much. Now you can see why a good cameraman makes good money!

Thanks for the video- this is the first and only such record of the show I have seen.

Apart from the dizzying aspect of the photography it was enjoyable. I was sorry he did not get pics of some dealers I know. I saw the booth for A and D Stamps and he walked right past it. It does give one a feel for what it was like being there.

One man's video-in-need-of-image-stabilization is another man's cinema verite.

Speaking of which, I had the pleasure of hearing Albert Maysles speak ... sadly, just a few weeks before he passed.

But, yes, good videographers have skills that are not easily duplicated or done without.

At 2:06 of the above video - "get you're face on a postcard, lines too long"... really? Again I have to say, my idea of a crowd is very different from others.

I got my free postcard.

There were 2 TV news cameras at the show. One was Al Jazera, the other was one of the NYC TV stations (I think it might have been the local FOX station). I didn't see what Al Jazera produced, but I did see an online replay of what aired on the local news and it was longerthan what one might guess a news station would give to a stamp show (and I appeared for a second).
