Wow Robert, looks almost as if something is printed there, but I know better. I do not believe anything is supposed to be there!

Robert. My Scott #9 does not have any lettering or other indication in that area. However, my Scott #16 does have what appears to be "compartment lines" along the right side, similar to what you have shown. Is there anyway to get a closer picture to confirm actual letters?

Robert, like the other scan - this one is awful dark and very hard to see anything.

Much better, and now it is easy to see that there are no letters there. And to answer your question - no, that line is not normal. Again, it looks more like bad wiping to me.

Ah, one of the famous Czechoslovakia Hradcany stamps. I really like these stamps.

Robert, that line is probably constant, in the same position on every sheet. As a matter of fact, pretty well all values of the set can be plated by position, every stamp in the sheets have unique identifiers.

The stamps were printed just after WWI and Czechoslovakia's independence. Printing supplies were scarce.

Nice Hradcany plating site here:

Direct link to your stamp - see if you can find it's postion.
