I have a PRC First Day Cover which includes a Japanese Stamp for postage (in addition to the PRC stamp that is the subject of the First Day of Issue).

Since the cover was produced by The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (PRC) I am seeking a reason for the franking. The Cover dates from 1985, which seems late for there to be an embargo against PRC stamps being recognized in Japan.

The link to the listing on my website is: http://www.ihobb.com/p/STAMPS_CHINA...1502FDC.html

Here is a scan of the cover:

Any suggestions of a rational for a Japan stamp on my PRC FDC?

I'm pretty sure it's not a FDC. China (PRC) Scott 1502 was issued in 1979. The Japan stamp (Scott 865) was issued in 1966.

Robert is correct, it is not a first day cover. It is a show cover with what is likely a show cancel. The site was Beijing from May 11-17, 1985. The pic is too small for me to make out the lettering, so I cannot tell you for what show.

OK, I was able to find your cover and see a bigger scan. It is a show cover from the China-Japan Stamp Exhibition. Location/date info given in previous post. You have show cover W27. It should be annotated on the backside. There should also be a information flyer enclosed. Your cancel is the "Japan" cancel, hence the Japanese cachet. There are also "China" show cancels on different covers.
