Yes the stamp is common, but we will need to see the front of the postcard too :)

A tough one Laurie.

It doesn't look like a field service post card but it is early in the war.

I've tried many different search terms in English and French but I can't find another example anywhere.

The postmark is interesting as it has Marne at the bottom. The 1st battle of the Marne was September 1914. Very important as it ruined the Schlieffen Plan and saved France from a rapid conquest.

The wording on the card gives me the impression of a morale boosting card/statement, especially using the word 'Souvenir'.

Even the addressee is a toughie but I did find this:

http://archives.ville-saumur.fr/_de...15_07_26.pdf

On page 2, in the second column 2/3rds of the way down there is a reference. They have something to do with research/information of victims/missing persons/refugees.

As a WW1 buff I've enjoyed doing this bit of research and hope it helps

If I'm reading it correctly, I believes it's a card from a parent regarding a son wounded in action in August and held prisoner in Germany.

It's heart-breaking just to read a little of one of these cards when you think of the hundreds of thousands of families that were affected like this.

The postmark is from the village of Bussières-lès-Belmont in Haute-Marne.

The note is dated from Belmont which is another village close by.

That was a very good find in L'Écho Saumurois.
