Note that this device does not have any indictors of humidity levels, it would have been nice if they had included a way for users to see and monitor the humidity levels.
Why turn a $30 solution in to a $40 solution? Imagine that you want to put one of these in every closet of your house. Real-time relative humidity instrumentation would be a redundant expense.
From the product description: There is an indicator window with special "moisture meter crystals" that change from blue (when dry) to pink (when wet) to indicate that the unit needs to be renewed.

Another method for lowing humidity in a small space is to simply add an light bulb to the space and leave it on.
I would be reluctant to place a heat source in a 'relatively air-tight' space.
Warming that space may lower the relative humidity, but is also raises the possible absolute humidity.
What happens when the lights go out?
This unit, as configured, uses very little electricity (periodic purging vs 25-40-60 watts 24/7/365) and does not require that you wire every cabinet & closet for grid power.
I think they've got it right.
