I received this through the post and was about to toss it out when I noticed something...

Initially I thought it was nice to see real stamps being used. But look again - the 'stamp' is printed onto the envelope, along with the cancel:

I can't think this has any practical purpose (or does it?) - maybe it's just to make the envelope look better - it's marketing junk from a bank. Does anyone know about these?

Ringo, I've received a few of these in the last few months. Always 2nd class, always junk mail. They're the acceptable face of junk mail!

It looks like an effort by the junk mail sender to try to get the recipient's to take a second look at their trash instead of the usual reaction to obvious junk mail of tossing it without looking at it. Another trick that is used sometimes is junk mail senders use a printing font that looks like handwriting rather than printed type. Most people will take a second look at something in the mail that seems to have been hand addressed to them thinking that it may be real mail as opposed to junk mail.
