I came across these interesting stamps and covers while sorting through my parents' estate.

According to http://www.stamp-collecting-world.c...s_1940d.html, they are provisional definitive postage stamps created following the German occupation of the Netherlands by overprinting and re-valuing the 3 C. denomination gull and numeral definitive stamp type of 1924-1926.

That site lists the stamps as NVPH #363, but I don't know the Scott number.

I couldn't find similar covers online (note the stickers indicating that the Nazis opened them) and would appreciate knowing what they might be worth. Thanks.

I can't help you with the Scott number, but wouldn't say the stamps themselves are of great value (a few cents each). However, the censor seals will certainly add a premium to collectors, especially given the destination. Clearly, several months before the USA declared war on Germany, Japan and Italy so the destination wasn't prohibited. Maybe $10-$15 on ebay?

Thanks.
The cancels are interesting: "Mail your letters as soon as they are ready!" written in Dutch, with that funny little man in a hurry.

If you do an ebay search on actually sold covers of this type you will see that they typically sell for around $2 to $5 each depending on markings and condition. Yours are fairly straightforward ones and their condition is a little rough with the folds and wrinkles and small tears and hinge remants so you might be looking at $2 to $3 each.

Thanks. I'll put this at the bottom of the stack and figure out what to do with it later!
