Some months ago I started a thread on my difficulty reading watermarks on U.S. stamps. People were tremendously helpful, and I have improved, but not very much. Also, some people said on some stamps it is just damn hard to find the watermark, even when you're sure that it's there.

Well. I bought a Gibbons watermark detector. I was rather surprised to see that it actually works. I found some watermarks with it and then, knowing where to look, I also found them in the black tray with fluid. But I found some that just didn't show up at all in the tray. Some stamps it doesn't work with; they just look black, like the whole thing is a watermerk. But in general, I'm pleased.
