Stämpel Vs Stempel, What Is The Difference

On the Austrian stamps they use both word, both means stamp, but when use one or the other.

Good question! I hadn't noticed the difference before.

The two words are actually "Stempel" and "Stämpel", with an umlaut on the "a".

These two words would be pronounced much the same so maybe "Stämpel" is just an old spelling of "Stempel"?

Perhaps a German speaker can help us?

Interesting. I am not a German native speaker, but did find this in an old German dictionary, which suggests the words were used synonymous (as nigelc states, the pronunciation is the same):

There is no Umlaut on the A of Stampel, which makes me wonder.

except that this time the fonts are not too heavy . but the edge of each character is different from an original Red mercury

And look at the flowers or whatever it is in each corners. And so many others thing.
