The Stamps Of France : By Page.

That sounds very familiar. Long ago, I bought some Machins from the philatelic counter in Trafalgar Square. Walking down the Strand, I saw more of these stamps at the Cameo Stamp Centre. I started with Stanley Gibbon's "Collect British Stamps." Then, I bought their Great Britain Concise Catalogue. After that came their Specialised Catalogue.

As my collection became more specialised, I switched to Lindner T Blanko for my pages and the Deegam Machin Catalogue made its appearance.

For Ireland, I started with Ian Whyte's "Collecting Irish Stamps." Now, I have Roy Hamilton-Bowen's Hibernian handbook.

I totally agree that for a worldwide collector - that I am not -, it makes no sense to use specialised material. It is easy to add some neutral pages and use hingeless mounts to add extras.

Excuse me ----"Does not make sense to use specialised material" .

I am a worldwide collector , over the years I corrected and shown more specialised material on STAMP CHAT ROOMS than anybody else in the past 20 years .

STOP ---Making statements about WORLDWIDE collectors ,with no understanding what is out there .

Rod - I advised Nora on the basis of her interest in collecting France. The France Timbres pages are free, cover the whole French area and have catalogue numbers. They aren't "specialist". The additional site I linked shows the stamps and their catalogue numbers. Pages based on Yvert have their frustrations, because Yvert separates air-mail stamps, but such pages avoid the additional frustrations of Scott/Steiner by not separating charity stamps.

As for grouping all definitives of the same design, some may wish to have their stamps arranged like this, others will wish to see the development of a country's issues, reflecting politics, rate changes etc.

I'm not sure where the "bravado" is ...

Touchy!

As part of a discussion I was referring to the basic worldwide collector who collects one of each basic stamp. It does not imply there are no people who collect stamps from all over the world at a specialised level.

Just last evening, I was watching "which car" , about the car of the year 2020 for Australia.
The panel of both genders, are invited to test vehicles over a huge range of environments, dedicated use, comfort, style, price, affordability etc etc.
From a Maclaren to a Tesla electric.

The same should be encouraged with Philately, members should be able to post their preferences with the pros and cons, of use and experience within their own journey.

To claim something is the "best" or to take pot shots at an opinion, without expressing their own preference is harmful for the person asking the question. Post your opinions and let the enquirer make their own decision.
Yelling with capitals does not read well.

Obviously, we know Nora collects, amongst others, Mexico, US and France,
is fairly new to the discipline, and ergo, our advice should be given with that in mind.
Something "Free" may encourage someone to go down a path that later may regret, If, it isn't given with due consideration and explanation to the interest of the enquirer.

Rod - my recommendation of the free France Timbres pages was made in the light of Nora's interest and my own experience. You're welcome to your devotion to Scott and Steiner. I don't share it, and nor do I see why paying for Steiner leaves when free - and better - alternatives are available is especially desirable.

I have been following Nora's posts. I like what she did with her stamps. It is great to see someone enjoy the hobby so much.

From one of her newer posts, I get the impression she is taking in all the information and advice.

Personally, I think the great thing about stamp collecting is that everyone can come up with a personal definition of philately.
