These are the Lyons overprints, issued on 2 September 1944. They're widely found. Many of the liberation overprints (Maury has ten pages of them) have uncertain histories and high prices and should be approached with caution.

Hi Rod, lovely stamps as always. Question - I was considering printing my own album pages for France. For US and Mexico I have purchased albums - but I am looking to be more cost efficient with some of my other favorite countries. I have album paper that is appropriate to print stamp album pages - where would you advise I go to find pages for early France through 1960s.... Thank you.

Nora - France Timbres has free pages for the whole of the French area, with catalogue numbers. If you want to print your own pages, there's nothing comparable. Open in Chrome, and not on tablet

They come on DVD for around $38?

I use them as they follow the Scott naming convention
I have them on my hard disk, so I can print any page, any country, when desired.

Choose whatever suits you, or what appeals.
Steiner will be there, when others tend to fail.
Choose wisely.

Be aware: Steiner clumps sets together (as followed by Scott Catalogue)
others will break up sets to issue date (not my cup of tea)
You won't get great pages like you are seeing here

A broad statement, and lacks due considerations.
Possibly spoken with bravado.
So what if the collector is a Worldwide disciple? he/she is going to have to buy a dedicated catalogue, read in another language, and have pages for just 1 country.

What then, when he/she wants to mount Upper Silesia? where are the pages for those? another catalogue purchase. Differing page designs.
The entire collection will not be contiguous.

I spent 6 odd wasted years trying to handle a dogs breakfast of Stanley Gibbons, I nearly gave up collecting before discovering Scott and Steiner.

Selling duplicates? one has then to start converting other countries numbers back to Scott for ease of selling.

Be wise with any choice of Album page you select, you may dig a hole that's very hard to get out of.......

The breaking up of definitive series is not my cup of tea either.

Being Dutch, I used DAVO. They cluster older definitive sets. But that does not work when you issue annual supplements.
I never liked the newer Machin issues thrown in amidst the special and commemorative issues.
To me, these French Marianne, Sabine, etc. series look very pleasing clustered as sets.

I switched to Lindner's T Blanko pages, because that system allows me to re-arrange and describe stamps as I please. I find these pages convenient for specialised collecting. They, however, are much too expensive to use for the plethora of modern commemoratives and special issues that are now the norm.

Agreed, a design cannot be appreciated when it lacks concordance, in my opinion.

Obviously, there are cases for specialist Album Pages, that are suggested by Geoff, and specialist pages shown by the Postmaster GS here on this forum.

I just hope my opinions are considered before making, what in lots of cases, is an important step, when one begins collecting, esp in a worldwide sense.

As we can see by another member here "Angore", I believe he uses Steiner, and Scott, then, when beginning to specialise in Brit. Machins, purchased the Gibbons specialist catalogue, and continued on from there.
I believe this is a wise route to follow.

I use Michel for dedicated Gulf states etc, because Scott and Gibbons are wanting in that area.

I do believe in an overall Worldwide sense, Scott is the leader in general catalogue listings, in an easy used format, attractive font, and usable catalogue sizes / formats, easily understood world wide.
They will never contest the specialist catalogues from individual countries, but they were not designed for that.
