I note that some German album publishers offer pages for something called 'Austria Ostmark'. Range indicated is 1938 to 1945 dates that Austria was incorporated into the German Reich.
Exactly what are these pages for? Do they illustrate German stamps issued during this period but with Austrian postmarks? I cannot seem to get an answers from the publishers.
I assume someone on here collects Austria an can resolve this for me, thanks.

Ostmark is the name the Germans gave the former independent state of Austria. In other words, the name is purely political and is for the period of 1938 thru 1945

Ostermark was the period of the Osterrereich III Reich, when Hitler annex the Austria to the Germany , he call the Austria Ostmark.
For the album publisher it's the 1938-1945 period of all the German stamps used in Austria
here are the name of each period in history of Austrian Postal
In the Global Kaisertum ( 1848-1918 ) they was 2 Kaisers : Franz Joseph I 1848-1916 and Karl I 1916-1918
Kaisertum Österreich 1850-1856
Kaiserreich 1867-1918
Republik Deutsch-Österreich 1918-1921
Republik Österreich 1822-1938
Österreich im III Reich ( Ostmark) 1938-1945
Republik Österreich 1945 -

OK and thanks, but.. what stamps do they cover in an 'Ostmark' album? Austria didn't issue any stamps of its own during the period it was incorporated into Germany. |

Well, it will cover the German Stamps with Austrian postmark , I do collect Austrian stamps use in Hungary before 1867 in my Hungary album, I even purchase an expensive book to ID the postmark
I'm not familiar with German stamps, but maybe not all German stamps was used in Austria

I believe that was answered. Any stamps issued for use in Austria during the war years, 1938 thru 1945. Like I said, the name was purely political and basically had nothing to do with the country or its stamps - just an occupation name.

The only thing I mean by political is that you are not going to find this designation on any stamps. There is not really any reason to use that now - German Occupation of Austria should be sufficient.

I will really like to see those pages, I can't see how you can collect Austrian cancel German Stamps on regular album stamps boxes, because you will have cutout if not full cover here one of my Austrian stamps canceled in Hungary, as you see it will not fix in regular album boxes |

area66, that is my issue as well. It would seem that it'd be difficult to identify Reich issues used in Austria, at least to the extent of being able to fill album pages with them. Still I suppose it can be done. I think Lighthouse provides Ostmark pages,Schaubek doesn't. |

Stamps1962, I collect Austrian stamps and stamps less cover up to 1907, but I will guess you can find a German Stamps cancelled in Austria with partial postmark showing a town in Austria. But to my eyes, if you need a postmark to ID a stamps, better include all the postmark no ?

Yes, it would be nice to have complete postmarks, but this is really no different to looking for loose stamps that been "Used abroad" (e.g. GH used in Ecuador or Malta) or are forerunner stamps (e.g. Imperial Russia used in Finland or Poland). |

The Scott Classic Specialized catalog lists German stamps with clearly identifiable Austrian postmarks. They can be found under Austria having Scott numbers starting with "A" (not to be confused with the illustration no. which also begins with "A"). There is also a set of Danzig stamps that were authorized for use in Austria; the Scott nos. for that set begin with "AD". The catalog only covers the period from 1938 through 1940 (the cut-off date for the Classic Specialized). I don't have access to the Classic Specialized right now, so can't provide an excerpt.
