Istanbul : How it got its name.

Standing on the edge of Anatolia, a Greek word, Greeks had lived there for 1000's of years.
Anatolia, a Greek word meaning "Land where the sun rises"

1000 years ago, another people arrived there, and when they met people on the road, they would say "Where are you going?"
and they would normally answer in Greek ... "Ace tem Poli ".........to the city.

Ace tem Poli ..........Istanbul

Hi Rod,

McDonald lists this as a Red Crescent Youth Organisation issue from the 1960s, one of a set of two from a booklet, all perforated on one side like this.

The other value in the same design is 10 kurus blue-green and red.

A very elusive tome, still searching for it on CDRom
Thank you.

Nice words James, Thank you.
I can assure you, I had an inordinate amount of help from Michael and Nigel.
In the beginning I knew diddly-squat.

Basically, I am the collector, they are the Philatelists.
It has been a good journey though,
Well within my budget, the album feels good, and by all accounts a medium collection. Nice to hang on to.

Exposes the lack of knowledge though in a lot of material being sold on sites around, mis-representations and forgeries abound.
I could not have done it alone.

One negative, I cannot read Arabic, so the study of Postmarks must be left to others unfortunately.

Query :

Has SCF seen your fabulous work on the Canadian War-tax?
if not, I urge you to post.........

You are too kind, sir. I did post the exhibit way back when, and have been adding to it periodically (the exhibit, not so much the post).
