Some new items arrived in my mailbox - not something I can say frequently, so an exciting stamp day! But have some questions on both!

First - knew I'd have this problem in advance - but now it's here - so what to do??

A nice Scott #314B - but on paper! I don't have any 'on piece' stamps in my album - what do I do? Soak it?? Put it in 'as is' & have it stick out like a sore thumb?? Elusive stamp I've been chasing for a while!

Second item - I've never seen before. It is neat - high quality/glossy paper - not a (listed?) souvenir sheet - seems like a 'preview' / announcement sheet? Info on the back was a complete surprise - and really cool! Anyone have any idea??

Hi Michael,
congratulations on your new arrivals.

#314B not seen that before. "Blue-black" is an uncommon colour.

Your collection, your decision. Is the Pmk pertinent in any way?
Do you collect for truth or appearance?
If memory serves, you collect on quadrille, I see no problem with mounting on piece.

I have soaked penny stamps, off piece, one of this value..I think I would tend to leave. Or... leave at the moment and make a decision later on.

Thought: On piece, tends to validate the postmark, as genuine usage?

(The benefit of being a worldwide collector)

My guess is a "Dummy Stamp" (Google for dummy stamps)
or Test Stamp
The "Staatsdruckerei" is the give away.

I'll post some Austrian examples shortly.

I have a question. All the pic have a blue tint and a bit dark. Is this an accurate image? I like looking at these but curious about the images.

The top set, I think you will find with genuine postage stamps : Ecuador.

Mr. Glenn Morgan's similar query on Czech examples....

Hi Michael,

I think you are spot on about the Turkish 1962 "Virgin Mary" set item being an announcement sheet or similar.

I have a number of similar items from China that are much the same with printing details etc.

Rod those Austrian Dummy/Test stamps are real beauties.

You certainly have a wide range of interests.

And where do you find the time?

Hello LG,
I am retired, so plenty of time to spoil myself between cycling and Philately.

I just have an in-tray (now become a carton)
and I pull out some stamps every day, and put them through the scanner
and into an album.
It's like a lucky dip.

A few members here, have sent me boxes of "don't want anymore's"
and I end up with lots of weird and wonderful stuff.

Switzerland has a set of Michelangelo "David" test stamps, that appear from time to time.

I was a little disappointed the "Dummy Stamps" website, is now non searchable
They have some fabulous information,
but looks like we have to delve into each release of the magazine
There appears to be no Overall Index to printers releases.

Thanks guys! Very interesting!

On the 314B:

(I mounted in my album, on piece - a first! Doesn't look horrible...)

The color is the same as the underlying stamp - (You've seen it before Rod - you have the stamp? Scott 136...) Scott calls it 'blue-black' where isfila calls it 'slate' - pick whichever you prefer!

On the virgin mary sheet - (A place I've actually visited!) - the info on the back is the most interesting to me. The print numbers match isfila perfectly - but isfila doesn't say there was a higher print run for the 105 kurus value. It lists the first day of issue as Dec 8, 1962 - but the cool thing on the sheet - to me - is that it gives an exact date as to when it will be withdrawn from sale...

Indeed I have, well done you, Michael.
I can see it Blue-Black and Slate = even "Prussian Black" if there is such a thing.

I can also see your sheet as an "announcement sheet", but (and I presume) the individual images have no postal value, then It would be included under the "dummy stamps" title, as well.

You would think with such a sheet, it would have had the blessing of the Turkish Postal Authorities.

We need to ask on ONEPS

That's a good question - but I would say that those 'images' would not have had any postal value. It would've been hard in any case - cutting them out & then gluing them onto an envelope?? Much thicker than a postage stamp, and no adhesive...

Your page title is wrong! Those are 1908 stamps - not 1906. Issued in 1908 - overprinted in 1908.

That's why I posted this - (and wrote) that I had never seen one like it before...actually this was basically the reason I bought it in the first place!
