Wondering if anyone knows where I can get one of the older New Age albums, for the period 1953-62? I think it always runs to two volumes. I know Gibbons used to make these. Seems like nowadays, they only make a 22-ring version which runs to six volumes. Not what I want (and it costs a packet too!) I've looked on ebay, Amazon, Google and haven't found any. Just the pages would be fine - I can get suitable binders anywhere. If not, is there an equivalent album from a different brand? Thanks.

I'm currently transferring my QEII from New Age albums to quadrille. I can let you have mine - they run to four volumes, not two - but it'll take a little while. I'll e-mail you later.

That sounds great. It's the printed pages I need really, rather than the binders. From what I've seen the old springback system filled two binders for the first 10 years. If yours runs across four, does it go later than that? |

No - I don't think they'll go in two. I suspect the first editions were on thinner paper, and the binders may have been a bit wider. You'll need the binders because the pages don't fit standard SG-size binders of the Senator/Utile type - I think they made the binders smaller later. |

I am actually considering buying the new edition of those albums. They'd make a nice Xmas present from my family to me this year.
Incidentally I have emailed Vera Trinder twice asking about any discounts offered on SG products and they just won't answer. They are indeed expensive. |

OK - sounds great. That's exactly the sort of information you don't tend to find via Google! Let me know when they're available and we'll make arrangements.
Thanks, Terry |

Stamps1962 - just checked back and spotted your comment. I missed it first time (we were typing at the same time!).
The new edition is handsome, but has a price to match. I think £600 when I looked at SG's page? It's way too much for me. Also, I'm not personally keen on the 22-ring mechanism, but I know it's popular with others. I wish SG offered a choice of album types, but it looks like it's the multi-volume, multi-ring format or nothing these days - same with KGVI - 6 volumes for several hundred pounds. I genuinely prefer my fast-bound edition.

And...Gibbons has been promising for the past three years that the release of the revised 'New Imperial' is imminent. Still no sign of it. That will probably be in at least eight volumes with a tag of close to $900, or so US. I keep trying to locate a used pair of the bound volumes, they get snapped up as soon as listed anyplace. I own the George VI album and felt continuation of the collection to 1962 might be nice. I am an APS life member and last I saw one US agent for Gibbons offers a 10% discount to members so that would save me a bit.
Of course one never knows if Gibbons will still be in business from month to month these days.. |

Per reply today, Regency does offer the 10% discount to APS members but there is no mechanism to apply it using their web site. They suggest ordering by phone or mail- or on line then immediately contacting them.
Also heard from someone at Gibbons. The revised New Imperial is now 'on course' for release in late 2017. I have strong doubts anything much is happening with that project. As I said- if it does come to pass it will be a product so expensive no one will buy it. |

It will be something if a niche product, but, if it appears, it will sell. There are a substantial number of Empire/Commonwealth collectors. And if you have a decent range of QV stamps, the price of the album isn't likely to be too much of a constraint. Think of what Palo charges for its hingeless pages. |

Actually I would worry more about SG still being in business long enough to bring the album onto the market.
Someone on another forum last week was relating that when they sent in an on line renewal for Gibbons Stamp Monthly for two years they were told that SG is now accepting only one year subscriptions. |

That had a lot to do with my going the Palo route. I am still waiting for my KGVI + 6 albums to arrive. This should be a great week for me!
