Togo had a whole flock of Doves on its three stamps for the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. (Bonus: two views of the Earth from space)

United Nations Peace Doves are often wonderfully colorful drawings/paintings created by artists or children in competitions. (1996)

Hi Kris,
you always have something nice to say.

Turkey 1976
Sc #2044
Reforms of Kemal Ataturk.
"Ataturks Army"

Do not have an unused example.

Two fledgling United Nations Peace Doves, well nourished (1996).

(Hi Rod, The Peace Dove should have broken that Turkish dagger, as in your post of 9/22! K.)

Yes, often a mixed message, Kris,
"Peace through power" or similar. (The Dove is perching on a bayonet, I believe)
Perhaps, "Peace after conflict" ?
I am not aufait with Kemal Ataturk's reforms for peace.

From the same set of three,

The Ethiopian Peace Dove has most unusual contours, as does the smaller green one in the upper right-hand corner logo. The 9th anniversary of the revolution, 1983. The civil war began in 1974 - the imperial family was ousted. There was no peace till 1991.

(Rod, You're right, it must be a bajonet. K.)

This Peace Dove over Cyprus was issued in 1974, the very year that Turkish forces invaded the island. UN peacekeepers are still positioned along the green line separating north and south. (The thread on refugees and the one on barbed wire have several posts on the topic.)

An Angolan Dove and a rainbow call for peace and reconciliation (2002). The Angolan Civil War was a major conflict in Angola, beginning in 1975 and continuing until 2002. It began immediately after Angola became independent from Portugal. Prior to that, the Angolan War of Independence (1961–74), had taken place.
