Glad to hear you like the Vario setup. They really are just so wondefully flexible in what you can do with them.
I am still not 100% wedded to the one tag per stamp next to stamp idea, though. On "that other stamp forum" one idea was to print on paper a page listing the contents of the page opposite. So that you would have say
Vario page 1 - info page insert side 1 info page insert side 2 - vario page 2
will work a mockup of the idea in the next couple days to post but I think it might actually work better for me, since while I like having the tags with the ID info etc, they do tend to distract from the stamps on the page (something you avoid by having the tags only for the ones you lack) but really want to have the info of what I have and don't have in my collection together. |

I suppose my other thought was whether putting the stamps in precise issue order, with tag, rather than putting the set together in ascending order of face value, loses too much aesthetically. Each to his/her own, of course, and I've tried both methods.

Angore - Cool tags! Stockpages/books opens lots of options for that kind of specialized stuff. A bit too ambitious for my more general WW collection though DJCMHOH - I agree with you that too many tags can make the page too busy and distract from the stamps. I have attempted to reduce that effect by having the 'Series-tags' on black background - and printing the 'stamp-tags' with a more or less invisible frame (for cutting), as I think a page filled with lots of boxes easily get a bit much too look at. Quote: one idea was to print on paper a page listing the contents of the page opposite Please share with us if you proceed with this, would be interesting. Its a brilliant idea. I considered it briefly at one point, but dropped it as it would require double amount of pages, albums, shelves, money....beyond reach for me. Personally I think the brief write-up for each series in most cases are sufficient for identification. However in cases where I have stamp varieties that are not immediately recognisable, I will put a 'mini-tag'next to it with cat#. (similiar in size as the tags I use for pinpointing high-value stamps - stars). Those small tags don't distract too much, and I would only make them for a small fraction of my stamps, not too waste too much time. In any case - it is interesting and inspiring to see how others are doing their setup. Now, back to Luxembourg |

One door opens, another closes - I've spent today sorting out my (rather average) Lux collection for disposal! |

GeoffHa - He he, Lux in, lux out - balance in order! I fully understand your plan to reduce. I seriously considered downsizing for a long time, but I came to the conclusion I would not manage to get rid of any part of my collection - neither geographically or with regards to years of issue. So I'm still a WW-lunatic. Maybe someday down the road commonsense will find me as well!
Good luck with your clean-up! |

If it hasn't been clear for my plethora of posts today, I am adding Austria stamps to my WW collection. |

For the stock page tags I posted, I cannot take credit for them. Hans van Gils http://www.usca.nl/ created these and more for recent US issues. You can download them at his web site. |

So as promised here is what I have come up with using the idea of info page opposite stamp page. Since Vario pages are 2-sided, I'll print the info pages front and back side and then put them in clear acid free sheet protectors between the pages. I think this is the solution to what I was looking for, since it let's me at a glance see what I have, what I need, and the basic catalog info (Scott and where applicable, specialized) for the stamp. |

This is an interesting solution to a perennial problem with information and missing stamps on Vario / Prinz pages. Let us know if it works well in the long term. |

DJCMHOH - That album page with matching info page looks very neat indeed - well done. Much less 'busy' to look at than the page with info-tags next to each single stamp. I presume it would be a whole lot of work to prepare pages with that amount of info for each single stamp - but as long as one enjoy the process doing it, why not? Good luck with your work, thanks for sharing your stuff and innovative ideas. |

Thanks Blaamand! Yeah it is busy work but since I have to reenter all the data I lost in any case it would have to be done in some form, so not too much hassle. Plus gives me something to do when I need to save my pennies :) |

Blaamand - Congrats with your Milestone! That Lux set up looks really nice indeed. A smart idea with the tag behind the stamps and reaching above the stamps stating the CDS. If I was to make a suggestion I would add: Maybe it would be feasible to use similar tags to indicate the number and/or value of the stamps as well? That way you might have the same tags for all the stamps - those you have and those missing. On the other hand - you need to make up a new way for indicating CDS...Best luck! |
