Quote: I shouldn't value my collection at more than 60% face value. That's disappointing. That is for mint stamps that remain valid for postage. Otherwise 15% - 30% of catalogue if the stamps are in good condition. Rare and pre-1940 stamps in excellent condition have their own logic. |

Put some stamps from various U countries into my WW collection this evening: Uganda, Uruguay, UAE, Uzbekistan. This weekend, on to the V's and the end of the alphabet. |

While freeing up glassines, I found that I had 57 People's Republic of China stamps not yet mounted, including Scott #1 - #4. Not valuable, but nice to have. Going to go through the rest of what I have for China/Tawain and see what else I missed. It's been 4 years since I last looked at these stamps. |

I have been transferring mint USA stamps from a Light house album and other sources to my own Stanley gibbons Devon albums, getting a little worried that my stash of Black split back mounts might run out before I am done. I now have catalogues for Scott numbers and SG numbers for most issues the two numbers are close so my stock books with Scott numbers don't need renumbering just look in the stock book and feel confdent the stamp I'm looking for will be somewhere near whatever Catalogue number I am using, Easy! |

Quote: I finally finished writing up the B post offices for my book.
I should be finished the whole thing by the end of 2025, all things going well. I wrote that on 19 August last year. I still haven't finished the C post offices. Shall we say 2030 instead of 2025? |

How about what I didn't do? I failed to purchase a complete 2022 Scott Catalog + U.S. Specialized from my local library book store. The asking price was $75.00. I waited too long to decide because I didn't really need another catalog (I have a complete 2012 plus a 2019 specialized). I don't have very many non U.S. stamps after the year 2000. Another gentleman offered $50.00 and it was accepted! |

Last week and over the weekend, started working on the recent US I have accumulated from incoming mail and from others who save them for me. Printed Steiner pages for US 2017-2022 (free!) and started clipping and mounting these. Noticed while doing this year's Christmas Snowglobe stamps that the USPS had 4 matching cancels, so now I am trying to collect: a) the 4 stamps of the basic set (table stakes), b) each of the 4 stamps canceled by it's matching design (blue ribbon), and c) all 16 combinations of the 4 cancels on the 4 stamps (best in show). If I don't get too frustrated doing that, I may try it out with 2022's Christmas Elves, though I may not have saved enough of them. But, still having fun with common stamps! |

Sorted through my US Scott 319 mint panes and singles, and sheet singles. My goal is to have one of each pane (319g, fh & fq) and a single of each as well. Also, a quality mint of 319,b,c,fi & j. We'll see how that goes |

Something I did NOT do.... I was recently asked if I wanted to submit my "want-lists," but I did NOT do so because I don't have conventional want-lists based on catalog numbers. That got me thinking.... I think of my want-lists as for "quirky" collections. Long, long ago I gave up the idea of a complete collection of worldwide stamp issues. I don't think it can be done now. I now have three stamp collections. The main one is what I call my "Gazetteer Collection," where I'm trying to get worldwide stamps on which I can ID the city/town/place of cancel. So far, I have got 76,000+ different ones. The other two are much smaller. My "Everywhere Collection" is just one stamp from every geographic place (countries/colonies/provinces/cities/etc.) for which stamps have been issued. My "Some of my Favorites Collection" is just that -- stamps that I keep and mount in no particular order because I like or want them for whatever reason. Maybe there are others among us who have collections we might think of as similarly "quirky"? It might be very interesting to hear about them, too.... |
