I am working on my Hap Arnold exhibit. This is a display exhibit of "GENERAL HENRY H. "HAP" ARNOLD / His Life and Times Revealed Through Philately." I exhibited it for the first time at Americover last year. I have acquired a lot of new material since then, and am completely updating it, to show at WESTPEX next year in conjunction with the American Air Mail Society meeting. There should be a number of exhibits focusing on the centennial of the beginning of US airmail service in 1918. I have a few pages on that, and two other times (1911 and 1934) that Arnold was involved in the early history of airmail in the US.

I finally finished creating album pages for the Liberty series and completes all the major pages I needed to update/create for all the varieties Mystic does not list. There are still a few minor varieties scattered that I need to add but now have a list of what I need. I keep them on vario pages in the album for now. I am not 100% sure of the 7¢ Woodrow Wilson color variety. I did miss one stamp box size but will correct that at a later date if I need to change the page. I have modified almost 200 pages. |

I am currently re-locating my South Africa collection from being in with all other Commonwealth Africa to it's own folder. I am using the SG listings, so all pre-consolidation are first (Cape of Good Hope, Transvaal etc) followed by Union of South Africa and then the Republic. This will tidy up the collection (and enhance it hopefully) while freeing up more space in the general Africa collection. While doing this I am finally identifying all the differing types of 1926-7 & on definitives, helped by this website. http://www.southafricacollector.com...initives.htmMany different perforation, watermark and printing differences to look out for there! I plan on going as far as 1970 for all issues, then only definitive sets after that date. Regards DavidR |

I have been reading up on the Saint-Nazaire (German Occupation of France) stamps and postal history. Then I crawled various auction sites, collected images of certified genuine, supposedly genuine etc. It is a very interesting piece of postal history. I recently bought this pamphlet: "The Saint Nazaire Pocket, August 1944-May 1945" by Robert E. Stuckey. If you have these stamps, I would appreciate an image. Genuine & forgeries described here: http://stampforgeries.com/german-oc...n-of-france/ |

Really just keeping up with Ireland New Issues. And planning ahead. I have recently started preparing my own First Day Cover and/or postcard to personalise collection. So two new issues next week....50th Anniversary of Death of Che Guevara......that's easy to sort out. and a PostCrossing stamp ...I have no inkling about the design so that is not so easy to sort out. Also a local Stamp Fair this upcoming weekend and the National Exhibition "Stampa" is only ten days away. Also my wife is insisting that I bring my duplicates to a Charity. so.........busy.

On day 22 of going through four cartons of old stock from a Chicago dealer that passed away a decade ago. Fascinating. Discovered many varieties such as inverts. Great stuff. The catalog value is over $50,000 and I only finished one carton. It is not about money but dollars do make it exciting. |

For the last 20 years or so, Japan has been issuing a lot of stamps in sheets of 10. Album pages are usually formatted for mounting the full sheets, not singles. For the last week I've been creating Steiner-like pages for singles from these sheets. It only takes about 5-10 minutes to create a single album page, but I have a lot of individual stamps that need pages. Almost done.

Same thing I've been doing for the past 4 weeks, and that is sorting out a 50lb WW stamp collection I bought locally. Trying to get things organized enough to mount on Steiner pages, when I finally get moved to our new house and settled in. |

I received an order from Ed Mann at Eagle Stamps. It was mostly common but reasonably priced for being selective. It filled a bunch of holes. I have most US issues in sheet/booklet after 2007 or so but do not want to break them down to get a single. |

Last weekend I scanned 579 pages from a set of 4 Scott's Ne Plus Ultra "International Postage Stamp Albums" for 19th Century stamps. If anybody has any pages to help complete these albums, please let me know. link with images: http://www.rfrajola.com/npu/npu.htm |

A busy weekend. Two new issues....a stamp for "Postcrossing" (a lot of countries have now issued such a stamp)and the 50th Anniversary of the Death of Che Guevara. In the last couple of weeks, I had a lot of requests from people wanting one or both stamps. I wasn't able to facilitate everyone. And the three day (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) National Stamp Exhibition. Not exactly high profile in world terms but some really friendly collectors. And that's what it is all about. |
