Finished collating the catalog numbers in my Stamp Mate database for the Australian Roos issues between Gibbons and the Brusden-White Australian Commonwealth Specialist. With all shade varieties and watermark varieties, total comes to 357 separate listings (261 regular postage, 96 officials) for the Roos. Need to add Scott and Michel numbers to complete the listings but most of that just involves adding "var" after the numbers since neither really parces the Roos the way Brusden White and Gibbons do. Withe the Dues stamps and now the Roos listed, my database is already at 684 listings. And now the fun REALLY starts - working on the George V sidefaces in all their permutations. |

I received an order of 300 different Japan commemoratives today. Looking forward to sorting and mounting them as I become more familiar with the Japanese section of the Scott Catalog. |

Quote: Japanese section of the Scott Catalog. Bring your magnifier. Recently, Japan has been issuing commemorative sheets of 10 stamps. The images of these sheets are too small in Scott; it can be difficult to make out the stamps within the sheets. But, still, enjoy the challenge. Robert |

Robert, thank you for the heads up. I keep several magnifiers in easy reach for looking at PNCs and those tiny dates at the bottom of Barbados commemoratives, among other things. I'll keep them close for the Japan listings. :) |

Tidied up my collection of stamps in glassines awaiting mounting.
I've been moving my glassines to 9-pocket sports card holders in a binder. Much, much handier than using a box.
Should have them all in the binder and in alphabetical order sometime tomorrow morning. |

I Am headed to DC this weekend by train. Am going to bring along 200 of my 2 cent Washington Franklin stamps for identification. I made up a little kit; microscope, tongs, lighter fluid, tray, perforation gauge, aluminum foil, pencils, and of course the stamps.

Did I forget anything? I have my kit in a cigar box with a rubber band around it.

That sounds like great fun, Jack. Please advise what is the purpose of the aluminum foil? That would be a new tool for me. Dan |

The foil is used to determine if a stamp is engraved or offset. Place the foil over the stamp and gently rub with an eraser. An image will appear on the foil if its' engraved. I forgot to mention that I have a magnifying glass in the kit. Often you can tell the difference by looking around the eyebrow on the stamp. Somebody told me that on this forum and I am forever grateful for that information.
I also have a millimeter ruler and a copy of "Identifying W-F Stamps"

Excellent Jack Quite relieving to see others also enjoying themselves while on travel! I like your travelling kit/ beauty bag. Enjoy the ride. (Sometimes one wish the journey never ends...) |
