I'm trying the Pure Citrus method of SA stamp removal, starting by experimenting on common definitives. I'm finding the stamps do come loose quickly but wind up with a greasy stain appearance, as if someone had been eating potato chips immediately before handling the stamps. I'm applying Pure Citrus on the paper side only. Am I doing something wrong?

Try the other way, but you might also mix 50/50 with water and see how it comes out.

A lot of stamp collectors use the citrus solvent because it smells nice. But nobody has show it is of archival quality. While your stamps my cleanup nicely now, they may not look so nice a decade from now. I only use Ronsonol lighter fluid. I do it in a place with lots of ventilation.
