Hi guys...I got a few of these Canada Bill Stamps...Never seen a cancel like this...It says at the top B.B.N.A. and the cancel date is obviously 16 May 1865...But having a hard time with the place..Looks like AONDON...With a CAN?

Any help would be appreciated..Thanks.

You could be right Leejb1...Looks like that now that you mention it.
Now just got to find out the meaning of B.B.N.A....?

Thought it stood for British North America, but the extra "B" in front is throwing me off.

Is that a tear in the bottom? A line that leads into the first T of Twenty?

No tear Partime...Just ink missing and paper colour showing through.

Could it be a revenue usage-type cancel? Maybe British Bank of North America?

Nice. Could be a known plate variety, or just an oddity. Good find.

Thanks Partime, but there is not enough information out there that I can find to prove a plate variety or not...I was thinking under inking, but the rest is normal...One of those stamps that don't get a lot of attention..Hope some one can enlighten us about the missing ink situation.

A loose scrap of paper between the printing plate and the paper roll would stop the ink from printing the complete stamp image on the paper roll.

Correct (possibly) BlackJag...The picture below shows dark brown (sunken) is where the ink is printed, and the lighter colour brown is the paper surface itself..Hard to say if it was a foreign paper stuck of plate flaw.

Many of the Australian Roos and KGV's are known with this type of plate flaw / variety. Of course, there are proven copies with this variety. If there is some specialist's catalog out there, you may have a winner. Until then, just make sure you note the flaw. Good luck.
