This does not help much! I Googled the contents of the stamp, and found it listed by Klaseboer. But, he says on his website that he does not know what they were used for. By the way, if you'd Google the stamp you find not only this one but several others in different colors. Google the text of the stamp, and then go to "images".
They're DDSG Insurance Stamps. The reference work for these would be E.F. Hurt and Denwood N. Kelly's Danube Steam Navigation Company, American Philatelic Society Handbook Series, 1950 (64 pages). Available on Amazon.
